ABOUT
Established in 2024, COLLECTIVE OF OPERATIVE LIAISONS is an interdisciplinary art and design collective built on collaboration within sociopolitical subjects. Our current focus is on power and control within the built environment and how it is exerted on the body. Creative mediums are used as our “tools” or “weapons” for resisting sociopolitical issues. Our work takes approaches from action-based and art-as-research methods to develop a deep understanding and response towards complex issues. Our interests are within subjects of policing and the carceral, surveillance, hostile architecture, and urban design to name a few.
PHILOSOPHY
At the core of our collective is the belief in agency and action through art and design. To use our skills and knowledge to not just research or understand the relationships between design, art, and power, but to seek active action through response, protest, activism etc. We look to make meaningful change with our work through any means. Guerrilla approaches, installations, drawings, writing are all used to negotiate our relationship with the larger world and what we can do as artists/ designers to improve our communities. This takes place through interdisciplinary collaboration. The collective hinges on and requires all work to be a collaboration between two or more members. We are stronger when we work together: art and design become the glue that bonds our wide, interdisciplinary approach.
MEMBERS
Membership is fluid. All members have independent work and practices. Members come and go as they please with the exception of a few staple members.
